Windows Vista - Even the ads are annoying
Tuesday, March 13th, 2007As if User Account Control in Windows Vista isn’t annoying enough with its constant prompting for “Allow or Deny” now the web ads for Vista are even more annoying.
This morning I visited weather.com to decide on my wardrobe selection for the day. I was greeted with 7 windows that flew in and stacked up to represent the new task switching mechanism in Vista. As usual I began looking for the customary “close” button as quickly as possible. Once I located it, I clicked it, and I was redirected to a new window and microsoft.com. So I closed that window and the ad was still playing in the background. I tried again, thinking maybe I clicked just outside the box, but got the same result. After closing that window the ad was just ending (yes it was that long), once it disappeared I clicked in the input box to enter my zip and get the weather. A new window pops up and I am redirected to Microsoft.com. Confused, I again close it. Back at weather.com I realize they have left around an invisible div that is now covering about 1/2 of the page and won’t go away. The only way I could get it to go away was to reload weather.com. Luckily, I didn’t get another ad.
